Commercial Department Leader
Reports To: The Commercial Department Leader will report to the President.
Job Overview
The Commercial Department Leader is responsible for selling inbound new business leads and
overseeing the daily operations of the commercial lines department. This individual will manage
a team of account managers and producers, ensuring excellent customer service, operational
efficiency, and adherence to industry best practices. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable,
proactive leader with strong insurance expertise and the ability to foster a high-performance
team culture.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Quote, bind, and sell new business
• Supervise and support the commercial lines team, including onboarding, training,
performance evaluations, and professional development.
• Ensure high-quality service delivery to clients, including timely renewals, policy changes,
claims support, and risk assessments.
• Monitor workload distribution and manage team capacity to meet agency service
standards.
• Act as a technical resource and escalation point for complex commercial coverage questions
or account issues.
• Maintain strong carrier relationships and stay up to date on underwriting guidelines and
market trends.
• Collaborate with producers to ensure smooth new business onboarding and renewal
processes.
• Develop and implement department procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and
compliance.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and contribute to departmental and agency-wide
strategic goals.
• Support E&O compliance and documentation standards across the team.
• Participate in client meetings or presentations as needed.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in commercial lines insurance, including account management or
underwriting.
• 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Active 2-20 General Lines Agent License (required).
• In-depth knowledge of commercial P&C products, coverages, and markets.
• Familiarity with agency management systems processes
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to coach and motivate others.
