Property Underwriting Specialist (Commercial P&C)

Position Summary:

Acts as a profitable growth specialist with the ability to generate significant amounts of property business. Serves as the industry leading specialist who is technically proficient to handle complex property policies. Works in partnership with marketing underwriters and internal service partners to advance our property value proposition that will influence the buying habits of our existing and prospective agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Acting with a high level of autonomy, underwrite, price, and negotiate coverage terms to dynamically grow the property book of business by partnering with marketing underwriters and their assigned agents, providing seamless underwriting expertise, ensuring that established service and quality standards are maintained.

• Strategically align with marketing underwriters to identify new business property opportunities by participating in field sales meetings and in the creation of specific agency business plans to maximize our property opportunities with identified agencies.

• Collaborate with internal service partners to ensure alignment, secure essential information, and necessary resource allocation.

• As requested, join marketing underwriters on agency visits to explore new business property opportunities, negotiate key property renewals, secure competitive knowledge, promote property appetite and expertise, and conduct agency training.

• In collaboration with Corporate Underwriting, create and lead robust internal training to enhance the property expertise of our marketing underwriters, supporting our focus on specialization.

• Collaborate with corporate underwriting property line of business lead to serve as a resource to product development and regulatory compliance, and to produce management in assessment of new forms and potential coverages.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-related experience.

• 7 years commercial property insurance experience.

• Reinsurance experience a plus.

• Demonstrated experience with property underwriting.

• Demonstrated successful ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department, across the organization and with external customers.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.

• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

• Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite.

• Designations such as CIC, CPCU, AU preferred.

• Ability to travel up to 25%.
