Job Title: Claim Specialist
Supervisor: Western Claims Manager
Position Overview
The Claim Specialist role requires strong interpersonal, organizational, proofreading, and communication skills, along with keen attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office. The ideal candidate is adaptable, able to manage shifting priorities, and comfortable working both independently and in a fast-paced team environment.
The Claim Specialist is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, management, and resolution of aviation hull and liability insurance claims, as well as related litigation matters. This role ensures claims are handled efficiently, fairly, and in compliance with applicable regulations, internal guidelines, and industry best practices.
The successful candidate will possess significant experience in liability claims management and litigation oversight. Prior aviation claims experience and knowledge of the aviation industry are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Claims Management
- Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve aviation hull and liability insurance claims.
- Manage claims throughout the claim lifecycle, ensuring timely and effective handling.
- Coordinate with legal counsel, adjusters, experts, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate claim documentation and reserves in accordance with established standards.
Litigation Management
- Oversee and direct litigation strategy for aviation-related claims.
- Collaborate with defense counsel and subject matter experts to assess liability, damages, and exposure.
- Monitor litigation progress, evaluate settlement opportunities, and provide strategic recommendations.
Client Relations
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with insureds, brokers, attorneys, and business partners.
- Serve as a trusted resource for clients by addressing concerns and communicating claim developments.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while balancing business and regulatory requirements.
Regulatory Compliance and Best Practices
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards governing claims handling.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes, emerging legal issues, and developments affecting the aviation insurance market.
- Promote and maintain best practices in claims administration, documentation, and reporting.
Financial Management
- Establish, monitor, and adjust claim reserves based on ongoing claim evaluations.
- Manage settlement negotiations and financial exposure to achieve cost-effective resolutions.
- Analyze claims trends and prepare reports on claim activity, reserve adequacy, and financial impact for senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Extensive experience handling hull and liability insurance claims and managing litigation.
- Strong understanding of insurance coverage, liability analysis, and litigation processes.
- Experience working with aviation attorneys, maintenance providers, operators, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage complex claims independently and make sound business decisions.
- Proficiency in claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of aviation operations, aircraft systems, and the aviation insurance marketplace.
- FAA Pilot Certificate, Private Pilot or higher.
- Must reside and work remotely from California.
