Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support the day-to-day accounting functions of an established insurance agency. Insurance experience is not required. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a basic accounting foundation, accounting coursework, or hands-on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
The Accounting Assistant will work closely with management and assist with general accounting, bank reconciliations, payroll processing, journal entries, financial reporting, and other routine accounting responsibilities. Carrier-specific accounting is handled separately by the agency’s master broker.
The ideal candidate is organized, positive, eager to learn, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Because this position handles sensitive employee, client, payroll, and financial information, maintaining strict confidentiality is an essential requirement of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage routine accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
- Complete bank and account reconciliations
- Assist with payroll processing through a third-party payroll provider
- Prepare and post basic journal entries
- Run financial reports and assist with reviewing financial information
- Process and print checks as needed
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting records
- Research and help resolve accounting discrepancies
- Assist with month-end accounting activities
- Support management with additional accounting and administrative projects
- Follow established accounting procedures and internal controls
- Protect confidential employee, client, payroll, and financial information at all times
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices
- Accounting coursework, a related degree, or practical accounting experience
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general bookkeeping
- Experience with QuickBooks
- Comfortable working with financial reports, journal entries, and reconciliations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to manage responsibilities with limited supervision
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Stable work history preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with AMS360 is a strong plus
- Payroll processing experience
- Experience working in an insurance agency, accounting department, or professional office environment
Work Arrangement
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Greenwood Village. The selected candidate will work in the office during the initial training period. After training, a hybrid schedule will be available.
The anticipated in-office schedule may include Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, although there is some flexibility. Candidates must be local to the Greenwood Village area and able to come into the office regularly, particularly when checks need to be printed or other in-office accounting responsibilities require attention.
Work Environment
The management style is supportive, collaborative, and laid-back. The Accounting Assistant will receive hands-on training and work closely with management while learning the agency’s accounting processes.
