Senior Underwriting Account Manager

General Summary

This position is responsible for the profitable growth of an assigned book of Healthcare Professional and General Liability business by applying underwriting policies, guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.

The Senior Underwriting Account Manager will have a thorough understanding of underwriting strategies, risk appetite, and portfolio goals, and will use internal and external data to make appropriate individual and portfolio risk decisions.

Employees based outside of New York must be able to travel to the New York office as needed. Ability to work from home is contingent upon prior experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Underwrite Healthcare Facilities accounts within the scope of assigned underwriting authority.

Review applications and financial requirements to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with underwriting guidelines and standards.

Understand pricing components, rating methodology, and predictive modeling tools; price risks based on financial and competitive analysis.

Use appropriate underwriting tools, disciplines, and knowledge of strategy to ensure underwriting guidelines are followed.

Identify, analyze, and solve problems while managing and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects.

Review and prepare quotation proposals for both submission and renewal accounts involving Healthcare Professional and General Liability coverage.

Demonstrate technical underwriting skills through strategic and thorough account reviews and file documentation.

Stay current on state and territory issues, regulations, and market trends.

Manage an assigned portfolio to achieve goals related to gross written premium, profitability, rate, retention, product mix, new business, and portfolio management.

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of healthcare liability products and underwriting appetite.

Process policy endorsements and policy issuance.

Produce analysis and reports as required.

Assist with claims coverage verification as needed.

Input account information into underwriting systems, including application details, loss runs, and other required documentation.

Conduct visits and meetings with brokers and clients to establish and maintain effective relationships and communication.

Prepare and deliver high-level presentations of complex accounts and portfolio performance to senior management for review and approval.

Collaborate closely with Risk Management to identify potential exposures and develop tailored strategies to help mitigate risks for specific accounts.

Follow up with brokers and clients on requested documents.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience required.

Broker’s license preferred.

5+ years of hospital professional liability insurance experience preferred. Physicians professional liability experience with a focus on Healthcare Facilities may also be considered.

General liability experience preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of underwriting processes, coverages, and tools used to gather and evaluate information in order to make appropriate decisions on renewals and new business.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other departments, employees, management, brokers, and clients.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Ability to work without direct supervision, make independent decisions, and meet specific deadlines.

Must be able to travel to the New York office as needed if not based there.
